  1. Introduction

To celebrate the 65th anniversary of National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan, the Division of General Student Affairs will hold "Sounds of the Shofar—Tsinghua 65th Anniversary Singing Contest" which invites all NTHU students to sing for their alma mater. The contest aims to discover new stars on campus and inspire students to show their talents. The contest is initiated by the Division of General Student Affairs of National Tsing Hua University, and is hosted by the Mainland Students’ Association. The contest will be divided into three stages: selection, preliminary, and final round.

 

 

  1. Schedules

The contest will be divided into three stages: selection, preliminary, and final round. In the selection stage, the most popular campus top 16 contestants will be selected by uploading their pre-recorded entries (video or audio) and voting online to enter the preliminary stage. In the preliminary round, the top 16 contestants will compete in a live performance and the top 8 will be selected to enter the final round. In the final round, the top eight contestants will compete in a live performance, and after all the top eight contestants have performed, the final vote results and the first, second and third place winners of the contest will be announced on the spot.

The first, second and third place winners of the contest will receive a gift certificate or equivalent prize worth $10,000, $5,000 and $3,000 respectively, and may have the honor of being invited to attend and perform at the anniversary celebration ceremony.

Selection Stage (March 1~March 22)

  • Contest registration: March 1 (Mon) 0:00~March 15 (Mon) 23:59
  • Online voting: March 16 (Tue) 0:00 ~ March 18 (Thu) 23:59
  • Announcement of the finalists for the preliminary round: March 19 (Friday) before 12:00

Preliminary stage (March 22~March 27)

  • Preliminary song confirmation and call for contestants: March 22nd (Mon) 19:00
  • Preliminary song announcement: March 22nd (Mon) 22:00
  • Rehearsal for the preliminary round: March 26th (Fri) 18:00~21:00
  • Preliminary round: March 27th (Saturday) Please refer to the race fan page for the specific time
  • Finalists announced (on the day of the preliminary round)

Final stage (March 28~April 24)

 

 

  1. Registration

3.1 Qualification

Applicants must be enrolled in National Tsing Hua University and the number of participants is not limited.

3.2 Application Time

March 1 (Mon) 0:00~March 15 (Mon) 23:59

3.3 Registration Process

  1. When filling out the application information, you must provide the name of your department and your student number, and for group entries, you must provide the name and student number of each member's department.
  2. Individual contestants are required to provide a recent photo at the time of application, while group contestants are required to provide a group photo for display on the voting page at the selection stage.
  3. When filling out the application information, applicants should also upload their entries (video or audio) to the contest application link.
  4. Applicants will be considered successful only when they have uploaded their recent photos and entry. If the application information and entry are incomplete, the application will be considered invalid and will not be included in the selection voting.
  5. If you find that your entry has not been posted on the event homepage on the day after uploading, please contact the event fan page or contact the event organizer via e-mail (nthumsa2011@gmail.com)

3.4 Requirement for Entry

  1. The length of the entry is not limited, but in order to ensure the completeness of the interpretation and presentation of the entry, the length of the entry should not be less than 2 minutes.
  2. There is no restriction on the language and style of the entry.
  3. If the entry is a video, it must show your face or have a short introduction. For audio entries, a short introduction at the beginning of the entry is required.
  4. Entries must not contain abusive language or hateful or discriminatory content, and entries should avoid sensitive issues such as politics and religion.
  5. In order to encourage more students to participate in the contest, each participant is allowed to submit only one piece of their personal entry for the selection. (If a group participates in the contest, each participant is allowed to submit at most 2 entries for the selection.
  6. For the sake of fairness, entrants are not allowed to change their uploaded entries after registration.
  1. Rules

The contest will be divided into three stages: selection, preliminary round and final round. In the selection stage, the most popular campus top 16 contestants will be selected to enter the preliminary stage by uploading pre-recorded entries (video or audio) and voting online.

4.1 Selection Stage

4.1.1 Schedules

  • Selection registration: March 1 (Mon) 0:00 ~ March 15 (Mon) 23:59
  • The entries will be posted on the +1today event homepage, and the audience can visit the event homepage to view the entries, and the entries with the highest number of views will be awarded the "Most Eye-catching Award".
  • Online voting: March 16 (Tue) 0:00 ~ March 18 (Thu) 23:59
  • Announcement of the finalists for the preliminary round: March 19 (Friday) before 12:00

4.1.2 Requirements: Please refer to the [Rules - Requirements for Entries].

4.1.3 Selection criteria: Online voting will be used to select the top 16 contestants in the audition. The online voting channel will be open to the whole internet from March 16 to March 18, during which the audience can vote for their favorite entries, and each person can cast 3 votes per day. 23:59 on March 18, after the closing of the online voting channel, the organizer will count the votes received by the contestants and announce the top 20 contestants in the selection stage. If the top 16 contestants withdraw from the contest due to personal reasons or force majeure factors, they will be promoted to the preliminary round in order. In addition, during the period when the online voting channel is open, the entries will be displayed in order of the number of views, and the most eye-catching prize will be awarded according to the number of views.

4.2 Preliminary Stage

4.2.1 Schedules

  • Announcement of the finalists for the preliminary round: March 19 (Friday) before 12:00
  • Preliminary song confirmation and call for contestants: March 22nd (Mon) 19:00
  • Preliminary song announcement: March 22nd (Mon) 22:00
  • Rehearsal for the preliminary round: March 26th (Fri) 18:00~21:00
  • Preliminary round: March 27th (Sat) (Venue for preliminary round: Hopkins Auditorium)
  • Finalists (Campus Top 8) will be announced on the day of the preliminary round

4.2.2 Requirements for Entry

  • The length of the song is limited to about 5 minutes, and in principle should not exceed 10 minutes.
  • There is no restriction on the language and style of the songs.
  • Entries must not contain abusive language or hateful or discriminatory content, and entries should avoid sensitive issues such as politics and religion.

4.2.3 Contest Format.

Live contest - wheeling battle for the seat

  • The 16 finalists in the preliminary round will compete in a live contest.
  • In the preliminary rounds, the contestants will draw lots to determine the order of their performances before the contest, and will perform on stage in the order they were drawn. After each contestant sings, the professional judges will give their scores (see "Scoring Method" below). The scores of the contestants will be announced after the next contestant has finished singing, and after the announcement of the scores, the scores will be compared with the announced contestants to determine the current ranking of the contestants.
  • After the ninth player's score is announced, those who are not in the top eight will be stopped from the Campus Top 16. After all the players have finished singing, the eight players who are left with the top score will be the Campus Top 8.
  • Before all the contestants perform, there will be an audition for the judges by an off-site guest artist.

4.2.4 Criteria

All judges' scores

In the preliminary round, each group of contestants will be scored by the judges according to five criteria: tone and pitch, breath, rhythm and rhyme, emotional expression, and stage image (costume and make-up need to be solved by the contestants), each with 20 points. The total score of the five judges will be calculated and the 8 contestants with the highest score will be promoted.

If there is an overlap, then the tone of the voice is the standard, followed by the breath of the exhaled words.

4.3 Final Stage

4.3.1 Schedule.

  • Finalists announced: March 28th, the day the preliminary rounds ended (three players were taken: those who ranked ninth to eleventh in the preliminary round scores)
  • Final song confirmation and player call: April 15 (Thu) before 17:00
  • Final song announcement: April 15 (Thu) 22:00
  • Final rehearsal: To be announced, please pay attention to the fan page for the specific time
  • Final: April 24 (Sat) (Venue: Hopkins Performance Hall)
  • The first, second and third place winners of the tournament were announced on the night of the final.

4.3.2 Entry requirements: refer to [Rules - Preliminary Stage - Entry Requirements].

4.3.3 Contest format: The final stage will be conducted in accordance with the preliminary stage of the contest system, the final stage of the eight finalists will be used to compete in the form of live contest. There will be two rounds, the first round of judges voting to determine the top three, the second round of judges and audience voting to determine the first and second runners-up.

4.3.3 Criteria

  • After the performance of each group of contestants, the judges will score five items according to the scoring standard, namely, tone and pitch, breath, rhythm and rhythm, emotional expression, and stage style, and each item will be scored 20 points. (Example: If the judge's score is 100, then the contestant's score is 100x70%=70 points)
  • Each audience will be given a sticker (red, yellow, and blue) upon entry. After the Top 3 singers, the audience will put the stickers on the contestants' posters and the number of stickers for each contestant will be counted. Audience voting accounts for 30% of the total score of the contestants. (Example: If the first place received 80 votes, the second place received 76 votes, and the third place received 70 votes. Then the first-place will score 80/80 x 30% = 30, the second-place 76/80 x 30% = 28.5, ant the third-place 70/80 x 30% = 26.25, respectively.)
  • The judges' scores and the audience votes were weighted according to a 7:3 ratio, and the final results and the first, second and third runners-up of the contest were announced on the spot after all eight finalists had finished their performances.

 

 

  1. Awards

The first and second runners-up of the contest will receive gift certificates worth NTD 10,000, NTD 5,000 and NTD 3,000 respectively, so that the contest will become the starting point for pursuing your dreams, and NTHU will become a place where your dreams can take off!

  1. Entries must not contain abusive language or hateful or discriminatory content or messages, and entries should avoid sensitive issues such as politics and religion.
  2. In order to ensure the completeness of the performance and presentation of the entry, the length of the auditioned entries must not be less than 2 minutes.
  3. Entrants shall guarantee that their entries are original and do not infringe on the intellectual property rights of third parties. If an entrant violates the guarantee in the preceding paragraph and causes damage to others, he/she will be responsible for his/her own actions and legal liabilities.
  4. Entries must not be plagiarized, misappropriated, impersonated, or infringe on the copyright of others. It is recommended that entrants indicate the original song, lyrics, composition, arrangement, and other original author information in their entries. The finalists will be granted a non-commercial and educational license to screen their entries on the Internet for non-commercial and educational purposes.
  5. In order to ensure the fairness of the contest, malicious fraudulent voting is strictly forbidden in the process of the selection, and any violators found will be disqualified and reported on the official fan page of the contest.
  6. The entry materials and entries submitted during the contest will not be returned, and participants are requested to make their own backups according to their needs.
  7. If a participant is unable to continue to participate in the contest due to his/her own reasons or force majeure, he/she must inform the National Tsing Hua University Student Affairs Office and the Tsinghua Student Association in a timely manner if he/she needs to withdraw from the contest.
  8. Considering the uncertainties of the epidemic, if the epidemic is serious, and in accordance with the epidemic prevention policy of the Epidemic Command Center, the contest reserves the flexibility of not opening the preliminary and final rounds to the audience and using webcasting as an alternative.
